Europe 2018 - July 7 - Lauterbourg, France to Mannheim, Germany

Saturday - July 7
Nice to see the sunshine back again though it is pretty humid. Lauterbourg is just south of the German border so we left France very early in today's ride.
More storks in Hagenbach, Germany.
They were everywhere. One flew right past Megan just after Donna put away her camera. It was a magical moment.
We think it means "Put on your parking brake" unless you want to go swimming in your car.
We stopped for lunch at the Biergarten in Leimersheim for lunch. The restaurant was closed but the clubhouse next door was serving food as a fundraiser for their soccer club. We had fun becoming part of the local crowd of supporters.

Riverside park in Germersheim.
Even though the pictures don't show it, there were a lot of people out walking and biking and kids playing on the playground on this warm summer Saturday.
Entering Speyer
Dom de Speyer rang its beautiful bells as we were taking the picture.

Still making our way through Speyer though it was a better route than we took in 2011.
Ice cream stop #2 fueled our way across the Rhine to Mannheim, our destination for the day.
Hey, we thought we were in Germany, not Texas! We didn't arrive at the hotel until 6 pm so it was an excellent place to have dinner as it was right next door and we were really tired after a long but beautiful day. Then we watched Croatia beat Russia. The game wasn't over until 10:30 so that BBQ must have been pretty potent!
