Europe 2018 - July 14 - Boppard to Andernach

Saturday - July 14
A very substantial breakfast sent us on our way with fond memories.
We have taken a picture in front of this cafe on both of our previous trips so it seemed fitting to uphold the "tradition" with Lori.

Goodbye, Boppard.
Hello river path. He did not crash and is not taking a nap, he is just working on getting a different perspective.

The highest flood waters were in 1882, followed by 1993 and 1995 and were way over our heads.

Marksburg Castle (#10), best preserved castle on the Rhine, first mentioned in the 13th century.
Along the path in Brey. Starting to see a lot of people out on their bikes on this beautiful morning.
We stopped to use a convenient restroom and this women seemed quite interested in talking to us but did not know English and we have very limited German. We still communicated with our smiles.
This is a monument to the wine-making industry of the region.
We had lunch at the south end of Koblenz and we were at Deutsches Eck at the junction of the Mosel River and the Rhine River by 12:30. It is a popular place so it wasn't hard to find someone to take a picture of all 3 of us.

This is the first time that we've gone up into the monument. It affords a whole different perspective on the area. The shade felt pretty good too as it was getting hot.
Found this fountain while we were searching for an ATM.

We have also stopped here before and a cold drink was calling to us.
The World Cup is still following us.

Entering Andernach, our destination for today.
The walls date from the Roman Empire.
We watched Belgium beat England to place 3rd in the World Cup, had dinner and then spent the rest of the evening exploring town.

The end of another beautiful day in the Middle Rhine. Just wish Megan was still exploring it with us.
