Europe 2018 - July 3 - Montbeliard to Mulhouse

Tuesday - July 3
As we are working on getting this blog done, it is April 2020 in the middle of the Coronavirus global pandemic. We are so, SO very grateful that we were able to take this journey with our daughters when we did.

We could hear thunder in the distance as we walked our way past the construction again on our way out of town and it was very humid.
The Eurovelo route took us back to the canal.

Those clouds are getting pretty dark.

It is always nice to see the signs so we know we are headed the right way. Only 40 km to go!
This group looked like a middle school group out for a field trip. The young man in the front did a wheelie just as we approached them. We are pretty sure that he did it just for us.

Two teachers. Celine was leading a middle school geocaching field trip. This is their last week of school. Her students were curious about us so asked her to find out where we were from. They were very excited to practice their English skills with us when they discovered we were from the US. Celine is their English teacher so she was happy for them to have the opportunity as well (just no pictures of the students)
It started raining 10 minutes later, at 11:30, so we got 3 hours in before it caught us.

It didn't slow us down much.
And it only lasted about a half hour.
The locks gave Doug lots of opportunities to set shots from different angles.
Perhaps he liked the challenge of having 3 "models" to work with instead of just one.
Snack time. We tried to find lunch in a couple of little towns but all the cafes adjacent to the canal are closed on Tuesdays.

Passing by Zillisheim
We finally got lunch at a sandwich shop in Mulhouse at 2 pm. We were all pretty hungry by then even with all our snacks. There was a lot of art around town to distract us afterwards.
It included this addition to our bike art collection.

Just checking out his hundred pictures for today. He uses the 11 frames per second for the action shots so does a lot of deleting afterwards.
We had dinner at a restaurant on the main square which always a great place for people watching.

We did a lot of wandering after dinner so it took us until 9:00 to get back to the hotel.
