Europe 2018 - July 5 - Biesheim, France to Kehl, Germany

Thursday - July 5
At breakfast we realized that the name of the hotel is the Salt Box. Numerous examples were displayed all over the restaurant.
We decided to cross over into Germany for today. The first part of crossing the Rhine River goes over a canal that feeds a hydroelectric plant.
It is always so nice having our own path over bridges.
Next is the canal for the locks.
Then over the river itself and into Germany...country #2.
Now we are confused!
This helps a lot though.....following Eurovelo 15.
Quite a bit of this part of the route was on this dike.

Roadside shrine just outside of Weisweil.
It started drizzling just as we rode into Weisweil so we stopped there for lunch.
After that we stayed on local road L104 since it was paved and had good bike paths between the villages and towns.
City Hall in Kappel. Just south of here we heard our sound of the day which was people yelling as they rode the roller coaster in the Europa Amusement Park in Rust. It is hard to get pictures of that. 😉
The storks don't care if it is raining.
A home in Schwanau. We took a break in this small village as the post office was also a gas station and had convenient bathrooms, always an important touring consideration.
Due to some mis-estimates, it ended up being many more miles than anticipated. Then when we reached Kehl we had to negotiate a bunch of new construction as they are installing a new tram line.
It made for a really long and mostly wet day. We devoured our dinners!
