Europe 2018 - July 26 - Nieuwerkerk to Massdam

Thursday - July 26
Ironically, it was much noisier in this tiny campground due to harvesters starting their day before sunrise. Our hosts had just returned from their holiday about an hour before we arrived yesterday. We had a lovely chat with them this morning but forgot to get a picture of them. They raise brussel sprouts and cauliflower on their farmland.

We had breakfast #1 at the bakery in town.

Some stuff still needed drying.

Only took us 37 days!
This looked like a good place to take a break.

This fellow invited us to have breakfast #2.

Restaurant Grevelingen is about halfway across the narrow strip of land that ties two islands together.

In Oude-Tonge on Zuid Holland island.

Lots of agriculture and hardly any shade on this very warm day.

One more major water crossing for today on the A29 bridge. We were able to take a shade break underneath the highway just before coming up on the bridge.

More construction.....we were really glad that the bike path was not being treated the way the road was!

We got to the hotel in Maasdam at 3:00, glad to be off the road and out of the sun. It was close to 100F later in the afternoon. We were really grateful for the air conditioner in our room.

We had a lovely, relaxing dinner.

We could see this dock from our room.

It was a beautiful spot to spend the evening.

Looks like tomorrow is more of the same but then we should see some cooler weather. Hurray!
