Europe 2018 - July 18 - Erkelenz, Germany to Stein, Netherlands

Wednesday - July 18
Our hostess told us that she will have labor induced tomorrow. Their young son spent a lot of time waving goodby as we packed up our bikes.  So cute!
We were out of town in no time today and there wasn't any wind either.

Our lunch stop in Birgden at the REWE grocery store. The store's cafe served awesome sandwiches, had a place to sit and bathrooms. What more did we need!
Kirche zur Schmerzhaften in Kreuzrath, about a mile from our lunch stop.
The door was open so we checked it out though we didn't see anyone else around.

So simple and beautiful!
While we checked him out, he was checking us out too.
In Gangelt
There was a bunch of road construction right at the border so we weren't sure quite when we crossed into The Netherlands in Sittard.
But, all of sudden, all the cars had Netherlands license plates. This had to suffice as our border crossing picture. There was a bunch of heavy industry in the 6 miles between Sittard and Stein. On arrival we watched the last 26 km of Stage 11 of the Tour de France. It was in the Alps, which made our few rolling hills today seem pretty wimpy.
Our hotel was right across the road from a nice park.
The miniature golf course had a convenient restaurant with lots of outdoor seating.
Jan G. helped us interpret the menu. The food portions were huge when delivered to us by the chef, also named Jan. He told us that the portions were big because of the young people's appetites. Jan G. stayed and talked with us for quite awhile and we enjoyed his company. It was a wonderful way to end our day.
