Europe 2018 - July 25 - Domburg to Nieuwerkerk

Wednesday - July 25
The yellow heat warning has changed to orange so we will head inland and be warm but it will much easier to find places to stay. It was already 72F at 8:00 am.

It was pretty quiet last night for being in such a large campground.

This trail was a bit magical with all these little twisted trees.

The waterworks that protect the inland areas from flooding during major North Atlantic storm events.

This little girl was very curious about Doug's bike luggage.

When we were here in 2011, we were the only ones riding across most of the time.

Of course, it was very windy and cool that time.

Time to head inland.

This is definitely farm country.

The tractor had stopped so we talked to the driver, who told us that this is flax.

Our lunch stop at t'Oliegeultje harbor.

People used to live here but between 1475 and 1650 the sea claimed much of the area and 14 villages disappeared. It is now a national historical monument.

This tower was originally part of a church. All the houses and the rest of the church were torn down when the water took over the area. The tower was left to serve as a beacon for ships.

The farm where we are spending the night. There was even a refrigerator we could use and picnic tables too.

It had a great bathroom with showers and was just as quiet as Ruud said it would be.

Our host even brought us a power cord so we could charge up our phones.

Such luxury!

We had dinner in the barn followed by dessert.

Afterwards we checked out the field of flowers across the street.

Then we chatted with the sheep that live on the other side of the hedge from our tent site.
