Europe 2018 - July 4 - Mulhouse to Biesheim

Wednesday - July 4th - Happy Independence Day!
We were captured by the cute street art on this building on our way out of town.
Despite what Lori's shirt says, it is NOT cold. In fact it is pretty muggy already.
A few more miles following Eurovelo 6 today before we switch to Eurovelo 15.

No wind, warm and muggy.
Time for a snack at the market in Blodelsheim.
A little World Cup street art on our way.
The Victor Schoelcher Museum of Black History and the Rights of Man in Fessenheim. We toured the outdoor exhibit which had some of the information in French and English. It was pretty sobering.
Hmmmm, that is an interesting cloud. Think we will need to keep an eye on that one.

Remember that cloud? Two minutes after we sat down to lunch in Neuf Brisach, the thunderstorm let loose.
Thank goodness for serendipitous timing.
Patisserie Birke was a fun and delicious place to hang out until the storm passed.
This picture gives you a birds eye view of the town which was designed by Vauban to guard the border between France and the Roman Empire and then Germany. The Rhine River is only a couple of miles to the east. It is an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We spent about an hour showing Megan and Lori around the historic fortifications that were built in the early 1700's. We had enjoyed our visit here in 2011 so knew our way around.
This lion and the other art we saw this time was new.

This is one of the four gates through the fortification wall that surrounds the town.

The French do know how to decorate with flowers!
Our hotel had an dinner buffet in the garden that night and it was packed with locals. Made for really good people watching and we didn't have to walk very far either!
