Europe 2018 - July 17 - Koln to Erkelenz

Tuesday - July 17

Our bikes are much happier now as they spent the night with the hotel's garbage bins. We are saying goodby to the Rhine as a route today and headed west towards Belgium.
It also felt appropriate to get the bikes' picture in front of the Dom since we walked everywhere yesterday afternoon while they were being cooped up.
A very modern mosque on our way out of town.
Also on our way out of town which took awhile...
....about an hour and 6 miles in fact.
Another World Cup soccer ball at the post office in Pulheim, about 3 miles west of Koln. Another older woman tried to engage us in conversation about our bike trip but our lack of German reduced us to mostly smiles once again.
Now we are really out of town and those wind turbines are turning. This is not a very good sign since it isn't even noon yet.
Agriculture and power plants are everywhere.
We got so close to the wind turbines that we could hear them cutting through the air, a strange sound.
This tennis club served pizza and gave us some live entertainment during dinner. We had never seen clay courts in person before so it was educational as well.
Our abode for the night was an Air BnB. Austin treated us to some traditional sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaves when we returned from dinner. We also found out that his wife is 4 days past her due date with child #2 so we might not see him in the morning! It was a very nice place to spend our last night in Germany.
