August 18 - Prague Umbrella Day

Tuesday and the forecast is rain and more rain. We took the tram to the city center.

Walking around the main square we ducked into a lot of doorways.

Trying to not get the camera too wet.

The Old Town Hall Clock Tower looked like a good refuge.
Inside Town Hall, we found Wedding #3.

The stairwell was lined with interpretive panels. It is always interesting to see how much work Europeans have done to recover from WWII.

The last set of steps to the top was only one person wide so you had to wait for the green light to go up or down.

This is a close as we are going to get to Prague Castle.
We'll be eating lunch down there is just a bit.

Back downstairs this mural is made out of mosaic tiles.
The Astronomical Clock on the outside of the tower, which tells the time of day, the seasons, sunrise and sunset, all very accurately.

Lunch time.
Back to ducking into interesting doorways....a whole store of puppets.

Despite the wetness we did not feel called to venture in here.
The Charles Bridge was more interesting. They did a major restoration from 2007-2010.
They were laughing the whole time.
At the other end of the bridge we ducked into a tourist shop that happen to have really cheap black umbrellas. We got one. We should have got two.

Even the pigeons were taking refuge.

Inside the bridge tower museum.
The home of the Praque Orchestra. On our way here a car threw up a big slug of water that caught Doug squarely from the waist down. He was wet everywhere now and it was only 60F so he got cold fast.
We checked out the Old New Synagogue in the Jewish quarter. It is Europe's oldest active synagogue, opened in 1270.

The Spanish Synagogue, built 1868....just a youngster.
The Prague equivalent of The Rainshed, Doug's go to place for Fastex anything. Time to get him to someplace warm and dry. After living in 90-95F for the last couple of weeks, 60F feels pretty chilly.
Worked on logistics a bit and it actually stopped raining before we walked to dinner. We are SOOOO glad we weren't riding the bikes today. Prague on foot in the rain was a much better way to spend the day.

Museum of medieval torture instruments.... Yuck
And the old car induced wet slosh, Montreal drivers can be pretty adept at this...gotta be on the ball here.
It is so true after a lot of time in hot hot weather, how cold it feels in the 60s. Vive good old arm and leg warmers.
