Sunday - September 24 - Thorp to Abbotsford We got the magnet to put on the frig so we wouldn't forget our bounty. Doug forgot his favorite gummy bears in Chippewa Falls. |
One more cow...the Patriotic Cow |
Just as we left town on County X we were joined by Amish horse-drawn carriages and young people riding past us on bicycles. |
Their church was about 4 miles outside of town and services must have started at 9:00. |
The sound of hooves on asphalt was our sound of the day. |
There were many cheery hellos and "where are you headed?" It felt special to be a part of their morning. |
A pretty typical farm house in the area. |
Stopped to look at the monster pink flowers but the whole bed was nicely done. Most of the farm houses have lots of flowers......and LOTS of lawn. |
We guess that location isn't a big deal when you are a magazine publisher as this place was a mile outside of Withee/Owen, with a population of 1400. |
This is how the Yellowstone Trail was marked in the early 1900's. |
Unfortunately, County X ended just east of Owen and the only reasonable option is Highway 29, horses and bikes. |
BUT, other than being a little noisy, this construction zone meant we had the right lane all to ourselves for 6 whole miles (out of 9)....touring bliss! |
We are entering the Land of Abby, named after our granddaughter, of course. 😃 |
Sometimes you just have to use any shade you can find. |
Another find on our cheese/dairy map, the Hawkeye Dairy Store in Abbotsford. |
We didn't get any cheese but we did stand in line for 20 minutes to get some yummy ice cream. |
More "Abby" |
We had lunch and dinner at the Abby Cafe. We rode past the Abby Bank to get there. |
And we spent the night at the Abby Inn. |
