2017 MinnWisMi - Baldwin to Menomonie

Thursday - September 21 - Baldwin to Menomonie
It is 54F and sunny as we head back to Highway 12.
Are we back in the Netherlands?

86 coal cars headed east.
Dairyland has horses too....
....and lots of soybeans and corn but more hills than Iowa.
Picnic lunch in Knapp Memorial Park. It was still cool enough that we wanted to sit in the sun,

Our motel was at the north end of Menomonie so we dropped off our baggage and headed into town in search of ice cream and sight-seeing. This bell tower is part of Bowman Hall, the oldest building on the University of Wisconsin - Stout Campus. The college was originally established by James Stout, a local lumber baron, in 1891 to teach engineering.
Lake Menomin
Utility box art is a theme we find everywhere we go.
The entrance to the Mabel Tainter Memorial caught our attention then we went inside.
Wow! Grace gave us a personal tour. She said it is considered one of the most beautiful theaters in the world.
It was completed in 1889 and has been in continuous use since then.
It can seat 313 patrons, a jewel box of a theater.

It was built by the Tainters in memory of their daughter who was 19 when she died of appendicitis. It also housed a library for a time.
Then it was back to the motel for bike maintenance and logistics. It isn't as simple as following the MRT signs has been plus it is supposed to be getting really warm tomorrow.
