2017 MinnWisMi - Empire Builder to Fargo ND

Thursday - August 31
On the Empire Builder
We woke up just in time to send a big wave south to Lori during the stop in Whitefish, Montana. It is about 7:30 so the sun is up but it is so smoky that it is hard to tell.
So different from our train ride west in July 2016. We hope the west gets some relief from the smoke soon. It is such a contrast with the news from Texas and Hurricane Harvey!
There are more bags under the seats too!
Goodby Montana. This is Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site on the very western edge of North Dakota
The Missouri River just west of Williston. We have just crossed into the Central Time Zone and it is at least an hour until sunset. We were pretty much on schedule until here. Then this thunderstorm slowed us down and took out a signal that had us stopped for a bit. We went to bed an half hour behind....not so bad since our scheduled arrival in Fargo is 2:18 am. A little more sleepy time is OK.
Looking more awake than I feel at 2:40 waiting to pull into the station. It was dry and cool for the 3 block ride to the hotel. We were asleep again by 3:30 :)
Friday - September 1 - Fargo
Thanks to really good blackout curtains we slept until 10:00....unheard of for us, though that is really only 8:00 Pacific time. It will take a couple of days to adjust. We are on the 10th floor looking south. This photo shoot seemed just a little precarious to us!

A remnant of Hurricane Harvey has arrived in Fargo just in time for our visit. It is a warm rain though and not very heavy. It gave us a good excuse to spend time in this gorgeous bike shop, The Great Northern.
We also checked out the Fargo Public Library. This is just the Children's section!
Friday night in Fargo at the beginning of a holiday weekend....music everywhere. This group was quite talented.
Still looking a bit stormy but the forecast is for clear skies tomorrow as we anticipate starting the bike tour part of this journey.
Goodnight Fargo....it has been a pleasure sharing the day with you.
