2017 MinnWisMi - Cass Lake to Winnie Dam

Saturday - September 9 - Cass Lake to Winnie Dam
Chilly but sunny and windy. Our route zigzaged so sometimes it was a tailwind and sometimes it was a headwind.
They may not lie but we bet they tell tales!
It is almost lunch time so she better not get much closer!
We planned to stop in Bena at the cafe for lunch. Imagine our surprise when we saw this crowd.
Turned out that they were just getting ready to leave on the 13th Annual Steve Stangel Birthday Ride. They will be back at 5:00 for a BBQ.
One of the riders told us that we could ride at the back.
Love the leather saddlebags on the Indian.
Just a typical National Forest local road.
And the main road....notice all the traffic!
We camped at the Pine Resort on Lake Winnibigosish (alias Big Winnie)
They had cabins too but Doug doesn't want to carry the tent for no good reason.

A little lakeside relaxing after we got the laundry done.
Dinner found us next door at the Northwood Lodge which was built in 1919.

Pat and Lorraine were very gracious hosts and we loved talking to them about the resort life, hurricanes in Florida and sharing some of our trips too.
This was the first time that bugs chased us into the tent....tiny No-seeums. Actually we have been pretty pleased with how bug-free the trip has been so far.
