2017 MinnWisMi - Abbotsford to Wausau

Monday - September 25 - Abbotsford to Wausau
It is calling for thunderstorms later this afternoon so we got an early start.
Colby is the next door neighbor to Abbotsford.

Silos and more silos. They are a constant on this landscape. 90% of the farms and dairies in Wisconsin are family-owned.
This has to be one of the longest clotheslines we have ever seen!
Do the Wisconsin steam engine people go to the Minnesota event and vice versa? They are only a week apart.
Just keeping cool. They found us very interesting but they didn't move one inch.
Some of the art at our lunch stop at the Village Inn in Marathon.
That bump on the horizon is Rib Mountain. It isn't the tallest in Wisconsin by 28 feet but it does have the most height above its surrounding terrain (722 feet). It is home to Rib Mountain State Park and the Granite Peak Ski Area which is only 5 miles from downtown Wausau.
Took a shade break at just the right time to capture the 19,000 mile mark on Donna's CoMotion.
Wausau has been designated as a Bicycle Friendly City by the League of American Cyclists.
Wausau is also home to a campus of the University of Wisconsin.
Downtown Wausau where we stopped to cool off with a smoothie at the Paisley Mug.
The Stewart Inn will be our home for the next 2 nights. It was built in 1906, designed by George Maher, one of the founders of the Arts and Crafts movement in architecture. It is on the National Register of Historic Places. We did not know any of this when we made the reservation on Booking.com! We just wanted someplace within walking distance of downtown and the art museum.
Our host recommended Red Eye Brewing for dinner and we knew why as soon as we walked in....Doug immediately started drooling.
Plus they had really good pizza!
The thunderstorm never appeared and the light at sunset was quite lovely on the numerous church spires in the area.
