2017 MinnWisMi - Itasca SP to Bemidji

Thursday - September 7 - Itasca SP to Bemidji
It was at least 10 degrees warmer this morning than yesterday but also more clouds.
This time we measured the boardwalk. It is 0.4 miles long!
These flashing lights come on as a bike approaches a spot where the trail crosses the road. It also triggers flashing lights on a caution sign on the road.
The Mary Gibbs Visitor Center didn't open until 10:00 and we arrived at 9:45. We wanted some more postcards so spent the time reading more displays. Click on the picture to make it big enough to read the poem, just one of several.
Mississippi River crossing #1 for today.
Still doesn't look much like a river!
But it has aspirations.
It looks foreboding but it stayed dry all day.
Mississippi River crossing #2
Not much traffic north of the park, mid-week, and post Labor Day and nice roads.
Mississippi River crossing #3
The Mississippi River Trail bike route is quite well signed.
Mississippi River crossing #4.....it is getting a little wider but still pretty shallow.
Even in the middle of nowhere he can find a place to lean his bike while he sheds a layer!

You will have to wait until the next post to see pictures of Bemidji. We got there at 4:00, needed to do laundry and so we didn't do any exploring except to Walmart, which was across the street from our motel.
