2017 MinnWisMi - Detroit Lakes to Park Rapids

Monday - September 4 - Labor Day
We are a little concerned about traffic on Highway 34 but suspect that most of it will be going the opposite direction. However, we still wanted to get an early start.
It was raining while we ate breakfast so we left ready to be wet.
We were so pleasantly surprised when it cleared up instead.

Guess it is official that we are in Lake Country.
Four Corners Market at the entrance to the Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge. For our Forest Service friends, notice the name on the cap..."Shank". Is this where he went when he took annual leave??
This lake is called Height of Land. Waters from this area flow north to Hudson Bay. A few miles later we will pass through the Smoky Hills State Forest and enter the part of the state that flows to the Gulf of Mexico.

Didn't know we would find a lake named after Doug so soon! So far we have been right about the traffic. It has been about 5 cars in the opposite lane for every car that is headed our direction.
We will need to keep an eye on this.
This antennae seemed totally appropriate for a truck sitting in front of the Osage Bait and Tackle Shop.
There just happens to be a restaurant inside as well. This beautiful bird kept a watchful eye on us while we ate lunch.
Another beautiful entry sign that is a bit outside of town.
Remember those clouds? It looks like they are going to catch us.
It started raining about a mile from the motel so we just went for it. It really helped that we had a 16 mph tailwind!
He said he was doing exercises while we wait out the rain. The breathing was awfully heavy for awhile.
The rain stopped in time for us to do some exploring before dinner.
Red Bridge Park
The Heartland Trail, a 49 mile paved rail trail, starts here.

Downtown Park Rapids. Almost everything was closed for the holiday including most of the restaurants.
The Good Life Cafe was the exception. The walleye fish tacos were delicious.
It has been a great "Labor" day!
