2017 MinnWisMi - Saint Cloud to Otsego

Sunday - September 17 - Saint Cloud to Otsego
The bikes had a happy night having this space all to themselves. It only 47F when we left the motel but we had a stop to make before leaving town today.
Mississippi River crossing #20, looking downriver (south)
The Clemens Gardens were donated to the city by Virginia and Williams Clemens in 1986.

We were glad we waited until morning because the rain had everything clean and the lighting was awesome for pictures. It made a beautiful place even more special.
Mississippi River crossing #21, the same bridge an hour later looking upstream This bridge is on the route since the route went on both sides of the river through Saint Cloud.
The Beaver Island Trail took us out of town.

Crossing the Clearwater River at Riverside Park. We stopped for lunch in Clearwater a few minutes later.
We sure could have a lot of fun with Tia and Alana on this play structure!
We only caught up with Mark because he stopped to deal with his phone. We had heard about him days ago. He started in Seattle on August 28, mostly taking the Northern Tier route to here. He ends his trip today at his daughter's house just west of Minneapolis. That is a lot of miles a day! He said the Cascades were beautiful but, unfortunately, he had a lot of smoke in Montana and couldn't see much.

We got to Monticello at 1:30. Originally we planned to end our day here but this tailwind and sunshine was just too compelling. We cancelled our reservation and got one in the next town.
Our sound of the day was not geese but 2 great blue herons that chatted as they flew over us earlier today.
The 15 mph tailwind pushed us up and down the hills through this lush farmland (lots of soybeans and corn) so we got to our motel in Ostego by 3:30. It was a good decision....and we still had time to do the laundry before dinner.
