Selkirk Loop 2019 - Day 0 and Day 1

Sunday - June 30 - Sweet Home to Sandpoint, Idaho
The kitchen remodel is done, the blueberries are getting ripe, and the bikes are loaded. Time for us to hit the road. It was an auspicious beginning as the Archbishop said mass this morning at St. Helen. We shook his hand on our way out the church door and waved a quick goodbye to our friends.
Thought we should practice a selfie before we left.
It was a beautiful drive to Sandpoint with lots of green for the end of June.
This is our intended route on part of the Selkirk Loop. It is mostly Super Sidetrips this time.
Monday - July 1 - Sandpoint to Priest River
One of the motel employees saw us trying to get our start picture. She came out and offered to do it for us. What a nice way to begin our day.
This trail started right across the street from our motel parking lot!
It was a great way to go through town.
Pedestrians carry these flags with them when they are crossing the main road through town. This is the first time we've seen this approach to pedestrian safety.
There wasn't much to the route finding today. We took the trail out of town and then Highway 2 all the way to Priest River.

And we made it.
The motel lobby.....yes, we are in Idaho!
The whole place was over-run with bears!!
And this just happens to be the bear outside the door to our room.

This little guy is on the back of a bench overlooking the river. Nice way to end a nice day.
