Canada 2019 - Day 2 - Ferry Day

July 18 - Thursday
Roseville, Michigan to Wallaceburg, Ontario, Canada
Three Blind Mice Irish Pub in Mt. Clemens.
Had to work our way around the Selfridge Air National Guard base before we could get back to the lakeshore.
Looks like Lake St. Clair is coming to us.
We saw lots of sandbags in the next few miles.

Salt River Bridge - construction number 1 and detour #1
St. Mary, Queen of Creation in New Baltimore.
The wall art at lunch in the Shack on the Bay, Fairhaven.
And what chocoholic could resist a Michigan Pothole ice cream cone! It lived up to its poster.
St. John's Marsh Wildlife Area
This is the first time we have ever seen a caution sign for muskrats!!
Colony Tower, built in 1925. It is a water tower built to look like a light house but is no longer in use.
We got to Algonac just in time to catch the 1:45 sailing.
This is a much more low key way to cross a major river on a bicycle.
Goodby USA for a few weeks.
Looking up the St. Clair River....there is an international border out there somewhere.
Paying our toll, a whopping $4.
Hello Canada. Walpole Island is a First Nations area. This is the burial place of Tecumseh (Shooting Star/Panther Crouching in Wait, 1768-1813), leader of the Confederacy of Nations during the War of 1812.
Bridge work #2 for the day as we are leaving Walpole Island. We got to ride the closed off side so it worked out well.
#3 - definitely not riding over this one! The Lord Selkirk Bridge in Wallaceburg. We got to use a bike/ped bridge that shortened our detour a bit.
It was a good thing as we pulled into the motel entry way and there was a big crash of thunder about 30 seconds later followed by a deluge.
The storm had disappeared by dinner time. Despite saying "Bad Temper" the food and service were both excellent at Crabby Joe's Bar and Grill.
A bit of a chainwheel bite. Probably won't be the last time either. It was still 81℉ at 9:00 and is not supposed to cool off much overnight.
