Canada 2019 - Day 6 - Belle River to Windsor

July 22 - Monday
Belle River to Windsor
Doug had stopped to take a picture and Jim stopped to ask about our journey. Then he gave us a bunch of good information about our route today. Another Angel of the Road and we've only been on the bikes for 5 minutes.
Lake St. Claire is looking a bit rougher this morning.
Last night's beach is gone.
That might look like the bedroom or an office window but those windows are the garage. We saw quite a few houses along here with that same configuration.

More effects of the high lake levels.
County Wide Active Transportation System. We will see a lot of these signs.
Tecumseh Lakewood Park made a fine rest stop.

Then it made a fine place to fix a flat tire with a table in the shade. Donna's tire went flat while she was in the bathroom. Doug is spoiling her by letting her wander the park while he fixes it.

Guess we should have but a new tube in the seat bag before the trip. This tube isn't going to work. Fortunately we carry plenty of spares and patches but this isn't even worth patching.
Looks like we are just a couple of days early for using this bike path.
This one worked though.
Back on the Detroit River.
The Peace Fountain
More high water.
This guy doesn't mind though.
A church that has been re-purposed as an event center.
We didn't know that whiskey was such big business in Windsor.
The two youngsters were very curious about all the bags on our bikes so Donna spent some time answering all their questions. These chance encounters are one of the wonderful things about traveling by bike.
Six days later and we are less than a mile from where we were on Day 1.
BUT we are enjoying the less direct route.
That is one very heavy ping pong table!

Donna's back tire was looking suspicious when Doug was changing the flat so we checked into the motel and went in search of Infinity Cycles. Jeff went to work right away. Not only did he change the tire but he did a quick check on all the systems and made it perfect.

And the shop didn't charge us for the labor. We forgot to get this kind man's name but we really appreciated his help and information on cycling's resurgence in the Detroit area.
We did see some of Windsor that we would not have seen otherwise. We also ran into a Parks Department manager. We complimented him on all the parks we had ridden through. He told us that they have been working on the waterfront park since the 1940's.
This is the view from our 14th floor room.

We had dinner at the Sundried Tomato then walked the waterfront until almost sunset.

That's our room.

Good night Detroit. We will see you in a few weeks.
