Canada 2019 - Day 15 - Dunnville to Fort Erie

July 31 - Wednesday
Dunnville to Fort Erie
We say goodby to Lake Erie
We have seen so many of these blue flowers along the roadside that Donna finally could not resist taking a picture.

It has to turn somewhere out there! Notice the long sleeves....it has actually been a little cool this morning.
And the road turned at Lowbanks.

The beach in Long Beach.....Ontario, not California
Our lunch stop, The Canalside, in Port Colburne, the southern end of the Welland Canal. This canal is how ships get past Niagara Falls.
While we were eating lunch, the bridge went up,
a ship went through,
and it went back down just as we finished eating. Notice those huge counterweights.
Metal grating always makes for a odd feeling ride.
This trail started right on the other side of the bridge and took us all the way to Fort Erie.
Nice way to phrase the trail user priorities.

Time to pump up the tires...and take a break at this handy bench.

This ultra-modern style house would have stood out from all the more traditional style houses surrounding it anyway but the "birdsnest" took the cake.
Good bye Lake Erie.....
......and hello Niagara River. That is Buffalo, New York on the distant shore. We went through there on our 2007 cross country bike tour but chose not to take in Niagara Falls at that time. It has only taken us 12 years to finally fix that omission.
Old Fort Erie and the very helpful guard.

More Buffalo skyline.
The Peace Bridge
We are definitely staying on the Canada side.
