Canada 2019 - Day 19 - St. Catherines to Burlington

August 4 - Sunday
St. Catherines to Burlington
A fellow guest at the motel told us about the rowing regatta/competition happening this morning at the famous Royal Canadian Henley Rowing Course.
We watched 2 heats of women's competition from the bike path.
This one was almost a photo finish! It was exciting even though we had no idea who the teams were.
They got to rest a little bit before heading back to the starting line.

Then we were on our way, heading east along Lake Ontario.
More agriculture but flowers this time.
Our first really good view of the lake, which is also higher than average.
Jordan Cove and a pirate ship that had seen better days.

We are just a week early.....or maybe just in time.
Our lunch dessert at the 50 Point Market in Winona Park. They called them Portuguese Tarts but we know them as Pastela de Nada. We fell in love with them in Portugal in 2011. We didn't get a picture of them then so this was serendipity at work, not to mention that they are soooo delicious.
We were on multi-use paths starting in Hamilton.
They gave us lots of nice views of the lake.
This one was particularly well signed.

And it had handy water sources.
Donna just happened to glance down as her odometer turned over 23,000 miles. "Only" took 9 years and LOTs of great memories.
It was such a beautiful Sunday afternoon and there were a lot of people in the parks and along the waterfront enjoying it.

Doug's bike was still making clicking noises despite tweaking cleats and pedals a couple of times today.
While admiring this bike, the owner came down to the path to talk to us. A biker friend then stopped by and joined the conversation. Doug mentioned his clicking issue and they both recommended a local bike shop in Burlington....more angels of the road.
But first we needed to get over the bridge.
Somehow we missed the easy way up. It took both of us to get one bike up the ramp but it worked.
The bridge went up while we were working our way up so we had time to rest.

They have made it quite easy for cyclists and walkers to move along the waterfront.
This young man was battling cancer when he started his run across Canada. He died before he could finish the journey.
Yes, it is a bike rack....but also a work of art.
The recommended local bike shop.
Kris had the problem fixed in 5 minutes....for free. (and it hasn't clicked since then)
But we didn't make it out of the shop without dropping a little cash. Donna had too much time to look around while the guys were diagnosing and fixing the problem.
Looks like a bike shop from here but it was the buffet where we had dinner.
This collection of familiar looking mixers graced another wall of the buffet.
