Canada 2019 - Day 17 - Niagara Falls Tourist Day

August 2 - Friday
More Niagara Falls sensory overload!
We knew that our best bet was to be early in the morning for the boat ride into the base of the falls. These people were already hard at work on an archeological dig when we went by.
And this fellow was busy repairing a dinosaur that had been damaged yesterday.
Our ride down to the boat is this funicular.
Everybody gets issued a rain ponchos, red on the Canadian boat, blue on the US boat.
We made it in time for the 2nd sailing of the morning at 9:00. Plenty of people had the same idea but it was not really crowded on the boat.
American Falls
Waving to the Maid of the Mist as it passes by the old power plant.
Not only is it wet, it is windy and loud....
.....and oh so awesome!

The 2 people waving are us. The foam is a result of all that water washing over the limestone rocks.
We hung out at the dock for awhile a little reluctant to leave the experience behind.
We did get a little different perspective on the zipline when we returned to the rim.
On our way to Journey Behind the Falls
An elevator takes you down to this viewpoint which is accessed by a tunnel. There are 2 portals where you are actually behind the falls. It is really something to be that close to the power of the falls but it doesn't make a good picture.

This spot was dry enough that we were able to take our cameras out of the ziplock bags. Used Donna's phone for pictures when the air was so filled with mist.
Back at the rim the crowds had gathered again. How many gigabytes of pictures get taken every day?????
We don't normally take pictures of food but this was extra-special and very yummy too! Thank you Four Brothers Cucina. for a delicious dinner and dessert.
Skylon Tower is our last destination for today. The top is 775 feet above the gorge and the elevators are on the outside. You do not want to be looking down when it goes up, which it does in 52 seconds!

The observation deck gives you a 360 degree view of the area.
We actually had 2 light shows as there was a thunderstorm off in the east that had quite a bit of lightening.

It was still 70F when we walked back to the motel. What an awesome day!
