Canada 2016 - Winnipeg to Morris

Monday - July 18
It is time to turn south as we plan to catch the Amtrak in Fargo, North Dakota to get back to Oregon. Highway 75 is a major road but there is a good bike lane or path all the way out of town.
University of Manitoba
Near here, for the second time in 2 days, a car slowed, rolled down a window, and someone inside wished us a happy day. Over the course of today, we also got a toot from a train and honks from a couple of semi-trucks. Canadians are just SO friendly.
The bridge over the LaSalle River. The river is not nearly as scenic as its bridge......the water is brown.
We think this means we are officially out of Winnipeg.
The Bohemier House in St. Norbert Historic Park
This is an outdoor refrigerator that used ice to  keep things cool.
Wish it hadn't been so early in the day with many miles ahead and a predicted headwind. We are sure the young interpreter would have given us a fine tour.
We did take the Red River Road south from the park until it met up with Highway 75 again about 5 miles later. It was very pastoral.
Just a "small" farm sign on the south side of the road at the junction with Highway 75.
The north side of the road at the junction.
It seems like the silos just keep getting bigger!
St. Agathe Church in St. Agathe.
Albert is from Steinbeck.  He stopped in to have a cup of coffee while we were eating our pie at Lucky Lucs. We had a lot of laughs about the differences between our modes of transportation as well as a lot of other topics.
This historic church is between the northbound and southbound lanes. The driveway is on the east side and it was really muddy on our side so we didn't do any exploring.
We reached Morris at 2:00. We did have a little headwind for the last 45 minutes so the ice cream cone at the Chicken Chef was much appreciated.
We are starting to think the town must be preparing for a festival or something.
Hmmmmmm
Our timing is really good. This poster in the motel explains a lot....the festivities start on Thursday. Trucks carrying carnival rides had been passing us all day. They are all parked in the stampede grounds next to the motel tonight.

No thunderstorm this evening. Arvid reached Halifax at 3 pm our time today. It is still hard to fathom how he did the 3600 or so miles from Vancouver to Halifax in the same amount of time as we traveled about 700 miles. He must be REALLY tired but he sure had a BIG smile too.
