Canada 2016 - Brandon to Sidney

Thursday - July 14
What a difference a day makes! It is sunny, 55F with 9 mph wind from the northwest. Tim Horton's has become our place to get sandwiches when it looks iffy for service down the road.
Brandon has good bike paths all along the major roads through town.
The Assiniboine River

Brandon's nickname is Wheat City. An article in the local paper says that Canada is expecting a record crop this year, likely in the top 5 ever. They aren't sure there will be enough storage space for all of it.
Looking back at Brandon as we climb out of the river bottom. If we had to have a rain day we are glad it was in Brandon.

You know that something is changing when there is actually a Provincial Forest!
Camp Hughes Picnic Area in the Spruce Woods Provincial Forest provided a fine lunch spot.

The wild rose of Manitoba
We saw several older wooden barns in similar states of collapse today. We were wondering if an exceptional snow load might have brought them down.
The Law of Prairie Hills - first you go down and then you go up. It will most likely be flat when you get to the top of the climb.
And flat is all relative.
Taking notes for the journal.
The other notable thing about today was the dragonflies. They have been really big, beautiful, and plentiful today. They just flitted around us on their way to and fro.
Shady Oaks Campground is just east of Sidney.
Our home for the night.
We especially like "Think Outside - No Box Required"
This is the end of Week 4 - 1,164 cumulative miles and about 400 to go.
It sure didn't feel like it was all downhill!
