Canada 2016 - Indian Head to Broadview

Saturday - July 9
It must have been a little windy last night! The storm came through at 4am and it rained so hard that it woke us up. We are so glad we weren't in a tent!!
Yep....that's the motel, 4 rooms big.
Doug's front tire was a little mushy. It looks nice and sunny, which it is but the wind is pretty brisk from the southeast. The highway will be going mostly southeast for about the first 20 miles.
The canola is getting yellower everyday.
The broad swaths of green and yellow are like a painting in this light but it is hard to convey the real beauty without the 180+ degree view we have from the bikes.
A new crop and a new color! (maybe flax?) Don't those look a little like R2D2?
All this rain has made for some very muddy side roads.

Breakfast #2 at Tilly Bean Bakery in Wolseley.

We passed by here on our way back to the highway.
Now Donna's mom knows where her fat quarter for this trip is coming from but she'll just have to wait until Christmas to see the pattern. :)
This is the closest we've come to seeing hay bale art this trip.
Lunch stop coming up!
Right after we pulled off the highway to the service(frontage) road, one of Doug's bungee cords popped loose and wrapped itself around the rear axle of his bike between the gears and the spokes. It brought him to a quick stop. He had to cut off one hook and it took a LOT of pulling to get the rest loose.
A half hour later, at 2:00, we finally got to eat lunch.
Remember that mushy tire this morning? It went flat while we were eating lunch at the ESSO restaurant but it wasn't noticeable on the gravel driveway so we got a little ways from it.
Devan, from Ottawa, pulled up soon after to see if we needed help. He is also headed east and left Vancouver on June 20. He is going a few more miles a day than we are. We compared notes and found out that he had an incident on the bridge in Medicine Hat also but the potential was much more serious as a motorcycle crashed just feet behind him. Another fellow, who lives in Moose Jaw, that we had met a few days earlier also stopped to see if we needed assistance. He said he had been wondering about our progress and here we were! He took our picture this time.
The good news was that by the time we got back on the road, the wind had moderated and was coming from a bit more favorable direction.
Our destination is in sight.
Time for a milkshake to celebrate.
One motel was full and the other one looked so sketchy that we chose to camp despite the threat of another thunderstorm.
The Lion's Town Campground is located adjacent to the baseball fields and the high school.
It was quiet, clean, cheap ($10 CAD) and gave us a great view of the sunset (9:06 pm). We checked on Arvid and he is well inside Ontario already.

We could hear thunder in the distance but the storms never came close to Broadview.
