Canada 2016 - Eagle Valley Park to Gull Lake

Saturday - July 2
The band did play until 11 pm and the campground is very quiet this morning at 7:00 am. Funny story....it was so dark last night that Doug took 20 minutes to find the bathroom. Good thing he turned on a tail light on one of the bikes so he could find the tent.
Gourmet muffins we picked up yesterday in Medicine Hat.
Maple Creek as it runs by the Eagle Valley Park Campground.

Alberta should take a lesson from Saskatchewan when it comes to rest areas.
It is only 10:00 and it is already really warm.

Doug counted 154 cars in this train while Donna was reading all the interpretive signs. That makes this train about 1 1/2 miles long.
A different train a little later with every grain car with the same company name. This is only about half the train. It is hard to convey the vastness but seeing a train stretch from horizon to horizon might help?

These birds got really agitated when we rode by and gave us quite a show. About a mile farther we saw a flock of pelicans....such a wide variety of winged creatures in these prairie lands.
This is a really, really good sign when you have been pedaling into a headwind for the last hour and it is noon.
Such luxury..... a chair in the shade with ice cream for dessert! A little prairie dog ran around under the table the whole time just waiting for us to drop something.
Out here, if we see trees, it is almost always a ranch house or a town ahead.
The headwind/crosswind was a little lighter after lunch.
But we still took every opportunity to take a break.

Canola fields show up especially well right now in all that green.

Looks like Doug just got poofed up!
Gold oil and black oil in the same field.
We reached Gull Lake at 3 pm. There was another thunderstorm in the evening while we were eating dinner but it was dry by the time we needed to walk back to the motel.
