Canada 2016 - Sidney to Portage la Prairie

Friday - July 15
We were in a very quiet place last night and had plenty of time to think about what we want to do once we get to Winnipeg. We haven't heard much good about it from Canadians we have met along the way but we've also met quite a few friendly people from Winnipeg on the road.
Farther west, trees meant there was a ranch house or a town on the horizon. There are definitely more trees now so they don't indicate anything in particular.
Time for Breakfast #2 in MacGregor.
Hampton Cafe was full of cool quotes. Another patron told us that an high school art class had done them.
It was coffee break time for the locals as well.
This area is beginning to remind us of Iowa. We even saw corn and soybeans today! (but no hogs)
We thought we left The Yellowhead Highway behind in Jasper but here is again. This is its eastern terminus.
It takes some monster tractors to deal with those huge fields we've been seeing.

An oxbow of the Assiniboine River became Crescent Lake in Portage la Prairie and defines the town.

It is a bird watchers paradise with up to 140 species of birds to be found in the area.

Island Park in the middle of the lake is a popular place on a warm, sunny day.

Oh.....and did we say there was hardly any wind today?
