| Saturday - July 16 Portage la Prairie has a long history starting as a fur trading post and becoming a transportation and agriculture hub of the area. |

| We had heard about construction from several people the last week. It is all the west-bound lanes. There were 11 miles where everyone was traveling on the east-bound side of the highway. Our shoulder was fine, it was just a little noisy. |

| The monument to the Principal Meridian, important to land surveying. It appealed to our forester nerdiness especially since we had passed the second meridian monument July 10th in Saskatchewan. |

| We got to the motel at 3 pm. The rain started about a half hour later and lasted most of the evening. The vending machine in the motel had frozen dinners so we ate in ;) |
