Spences Bridge to Cache Creek

July 3 - Wednesday
Mike and Joanna left before 5:30. We still don't know if they headed for Merritt or Cache Creek but hope that our paths cross again in the future....maybe Calgary? We wish them many happy adventures and safe riding.
The early morning light is so clear in this dry air.
One more stop before we head out about an hour later. We still want to miss the hot part of the afternoon even if it is supposed to be a bit cooler today.
Looking up the Nicola River and the road to Merritt as we leave Spences Bridge.
It is a pleasant temperature and there is not a lot of traffic this time of day either. Donna took this one holding the camera upside down on the top of her helmet while pedaling...lucky shot.

A beautiful, sweeping curve down hill section that was a joy. Donna thought  her camera was taking a movie of it but there was operator error. You will just have to imagine how thrilling it was.
Of course, then we had to go back up again but it was well worth it. We find this part of the world to be full of optical illusions. It looks like we are going down but we are really going up and vice versa. We can't trust our eyes but our legs don't lie.

The sound of the day is cicadas but the sound of the week is definitely train whistles.
It really is a trash can but Doug thought it was a giant cicada.

We reached Cache Creek by noon and enjoyed a leisurely afternoon in this small town that has more motels per capita than any place we've been. It is at the intersection of Hwy 1 and Hwy 97.

Cariboo Sam welcomed us to his town by rubbing Doug's bald head for luck. Doug says those aren't strings hanging below his shorts....those are his legs!
One disadvantage of having our own laptop and Wifi access everywhere is that we no longer need to seek out the library as we did crossing the US. This is our loss as they are often such pleasant places to hang out and play like you are a "local". This mural is outside the new library. Doug's dad had a 1957 Chevy exactly like the turquoise one in this picture.
We had a relaxed and delicious dinner on the outdoor patio of a restaurant down the street from our hotel. Looks like a tailwind. We hope it holds for tomorrow.
