Hope to Boston Bar - Canada Day is HOT!

July 1 - Monday - A national holiday, Canada Day
(this map is for today and tomorrow)
Sun was up at 5:22 and it was already warm when we hit the road.
Standing on a handy stump made Donna feel really tall.

Not just any trucks but, specifically log trucks.
This section is part of 2 different BC Circle Routes, similar to Oregon's Scenic Byways.

Ice cream break.
The first of 7 tunnels that we will navigate today. There were good directions for cyclists to safely travel through them.
The sidewalk was plenty wide but it was sure a tight fit at the end.
We tried to capture how fast the water is moving but not adequately.

The Alexandra Bridge, high over the Fraser River, was built in 1962.
This rest area was also the trailhead for the trail that goes to the old bridge which was way down the hill. We didn't go but these 2 young ladies did. However, Wanda and Charmaine couldn't believe we were really riding our bikes so far.
It is so hot now that we are actually looking forward to the tunnels because they are cool and shady. The road is now on the east side of the river so we are feeling the full effect of the noon day sun. Tunnels this long are very loud affairs when the noise from the cars and trucks is echoing off the walls
Lunch at last at the Elvis Rocks the Canyon Cafe.
The name says it all. We found out later that it is 100-105 F at this time in our day.
Hurray.....town ahead
We had planned to camp tonight but it is at least 3 more miles and a couple of hills to that RV park. We are done...no legs and TOO hot! We were the only people at this hotel for the night which tells you a little about the quality but it is the only place in town and the cool shower felt great.
