2017 MinnWisMi - Manitowoc, WI to Ludington, MI

Wednesday - October 4 - Manitowoc, WI to Ludington, MI
The ferry doesn't leave until 2 pm so we had the morning to explore a little. This is the Rahr-West Art Museum. The house part is on the National Register of Historic Places.
This darling fellow greeted us at the entrance which is in the modern part of the museum. The sculpture is called "Late for a Date"
We had hoped to see their Georgia O'Keefe collection but that part of the museum was closed while they prepared a new exhibit.
We did get to tour the Rahr Mansion which has art from the late 1800's.

Manitowoc has a sister city in Japan. There was one whole room devoted to gifts from this sister city.
One from a collection of chopstick holders.

It only took about 6 tries!
Back at the motel for our late, but not very late check out. The boat was museum quality too.
We moseyed towards the ferry terminal.
Had lunch at the Wrap It Up cafe.
Doug was very tempted.

The Badger, our transportation across Lake Michigan. It is a coal-powered steamship. It was built in 1952 to carry railroad cars. It was renovated into a car ferry in 1992. It is 410 feet long and 59 feet wide.
Peter and Jennifer's bikes getting acquainted with ours.....
because they will be sharing this small space for the next 4 hours.

Our sound of the day was the blast of the ship's whistle as we prepared to leave port.
And we are off....Goodby, Wisconsin. It has been really great getting to know you!
The wind is from the west today and, since we are headed east, it feels like there isn't any wind and the sailing is really smooth.
Does this mean we are officially in Michigan?
Can't see land yet.

Almost there.
The welcoming party. We are all taking pictures of each other!
Looking south along the Michigan coast, our planned route for the next few days.
We share so many interests with these two. Not sure it was really goodby as they invited us to stay with them the next time we visit Victoria. They are headed directly east from here and we are headed south so we don't expect to cross paths again on this trip.
Many safe and happy miles to you!
OK.......now it is official.
The motel was about a mile from the ferry terminal and then we walked to dinner at the House of Flavors at 7:30 Eastern Time. The time zone change means our bodies really don't know we are late for dinner. This was a fun place to end a fine day.

Our total mileage from Fargo, ND to  Manitowoc, WI = 1,029 miles
