2017 MinnWisMi - Green Bay Walking Day

Sunday - October 1 - Green Bay Walking Day
October already!! We started out the day with mass at The Nativity of Our Lord.
Father Mike's homily was about humility.
His quote from C.S. Lewis was "Being humble is not about thinking less of yourself but thinking about yourself less."

After mass we headed up to Lambeau Field.
It is the tallest thing around and we could see it from the church, almost a mile away.

It holds 80,000 fans and we were trying to imagine that many people here during the thunderstorm last Thursday night.

Much calmer today!
Had to try on a Packers Bike Helmet. Just don't know what they did with the straps.
Curly Lambeau

Vince Lombardi

It is a bit windy today but we don't care if it is a tailwind or a headwind.
Our next stop was the National Railroad Museum, partly because it was open on a Sunday and close enough for walking since we found out that the bus system does not run on Sundays unless there is a Packer home game.....not very helpful in our case. The Empire Builder will be our ride back to Oregon at the end of this journey.
It turned out to be very interesting!
A Southern Pacific chef invented the mix so he could serve hot biscuits quickly.
Now on to the hardware.  This was the train used by Eisenhower in Europe during World War II.

This steam engine is known as the Big Boy, a well-deserved moniker. It is 132 feet long.

Known as the Gratitude Train because it came full of gifts from French citizens in thanks for our help after World War II.

Yep, just a little windy.
Looking up (south) the Fox River from the top of the viewing tower at the museum. The Fox River flows north into Green Bay.

This is a working replica of a steam engine. It took more than 3,500 hours and 6,000 pieces to build it.

It was an interesting walk back to the motel as there were very few sidewalks until we got back to Oneida Street. Grand total was a little over 6 miles, definitely not a rest day!
