2017 MinnWisMi - Farmer Gene's Campground to Shawano

Friday - September 29 - Farmer Gene's to Shawano
It rained most of the evening until we went to bed so we were happy to see the sun this morning.
The bikes were happy too. There was a frig and microwave in the cabin so we had leftover pizza for breakfast.
Some more cute and "Toad" appropriate campground art on our way out. There are quite a few permanent trailer set ups and some of them are pretty fancy.
When we turned in our key the woman at the desk told us that they had to delay the Packer/Bear game for 45 minutes last night due to lightening. They even moved all the fans indoors. The game didn't get over until 11:15 but the Packers won 35-14 so it was all worth it.
These two were so happy to see us and wanted to play!
Soybeans, corn, woodland patches and silos continue to define the landscape.

These are the biggest stacks of logs we've seen here. It looked like all hardwoods.
A barn quilt....it reminded us of riding through Iowa on our 2007 cross country trip.
A town name that is stranger than Boring or Drain.
The rock foundation on this barn is typical of many of them in this area.
R for "Robin"?
These sandhill cranes were the icing on the cake for what was already a beautiful ride.
They were also our sound of the day. They found us interesting and circled around above us for awhile.
Another barn quilt! Hmmmm we are starting to see a trend here.

Well, of course! There are actually 326 barn quilts in the county!!
The ride is tomorrow but we feel like we just did it.
A rail trail with the old depot converted into a bike shop. The riders will finish here tomorrow.

The Shawano Lake outlet into the Wolf River.
Tomorrow is also Oktoberfest in downtown Shawano and they are having a scarecrow contest.
Angie's is an old-fashioned diner. That is a lot of pink! We were a little early for dinner and it filled up quite a bit before we left.

Wood was a part of their past and still a part of their present economy though it plays second fiddle to dairyland.
