2017 MinnWisMi - Ludington to Montague

Thursday - October 5 - Ludington to Montague
With the time change, sunrise isn't until 7:48. Donna went looking for the setting of the full moon but only found the lighthouse. There must have been too many clouds to the west because there certainly wasn't anything else in the way!
Our motel was only 2 blocks from the shore. It was a nice place but one of the few that didn't really want us to take our bikes into our room.
It didn't serve breakfast either so we packed up and pedaled back to the House of Flavors in the early dawn.
It is such a fun place...and breakfast was just as good as dinner. The only hard thing was being surrounded by all the ice cream and not getting any.

Someone preceded us! We thought we would for sure be the first ones from Sweet Home.

US Bike Route 35 will be our guide down the coast for the next few days.

The Pere Marquette River
Pentwater Lake
In Pentwater....thought Tia and Alana would have really liked this store.

A massive field of asparagus.....not soybeans or corn!
The town of Hart definitely uses its name to its advantage.
The Pink Elephant was our lunch stop. Before Doug could get in the door, a departing patron "interviewed" him and then had a picture taken two of them so he could post it on Facebook. People are amazed, envious, or think we are crazy.
We spent the rest of the day's ride on this pleasant trail.

Just as it started sprinkling, this handy picnic table showed up. There wasn't any rain in the forecast so we were a little surprised.
In Shelby....it had stopped raining.
How appropriate that this is the first rail trail we are using this time in Michigan. Now all the amenities and signage along the trail make sense as it is a very "mature" trail that is highly integrated into the communities along the way.
We forgot to bring along a copy of our hometown newspaper this trip. It is called The New Era.
Maybe Scott, the editor, will forgive us.
Montague may be cloudy but it still isn't raining.
The front desk at The Weathervane Inn is a large aquarium.
Unlike last night's motel, this one put us in a larger room than we reserved so that we would have plenty of room for the bikes and us. And it was a room with a view of the harbor......
........a jacuzzi tub, and a fireplace. AND they didn't charge anything extra for all this kindness.
We did the laundry and then had a pleasant walk to dinner at sunset.

And just as pleasant on the way "home".
