Canada 2016 - Strathmore to Bassano

Monday - June 27
The predicted winds were supposed to be SSW at 7 later in the day and part of the route is straight south so we got an early start.
The prairie version of our water reflection pictures.
Everything is so green right now. We could see the road so far in front of us most of the time and it was hard to judge the distance.
The traffic was relatively light all day and most of the vehicles pulled into the left lane.
There were lots of huge fields with scattered oil wells and pipeline facilities.
Important indeed.....this one means that our lunch stop is just ahead in those trees. We have been on the road for 4 hours......
......so a cold drink and a place to sit down were very much appreciated.
It was also warm enough to shed any extra layers. Still only a light breeze!
Looks like a dandelion but the seed head is 3 inches in diameter!

Every ranch has a way to cross the highway so we took advantage a few times if it looked like a better shot from the west-bound side.
We've seen a bunch of these semi-trailer advertising displays all across Alberta but few billboards. We made it to Bassano by 3 pm without any serious headwind. Guess that makes up for the weather people getting it wrong about the rain yesterday.
Did a little laundry before we pedaled to dinner. At 55 miles, this was the longest ride we've done in months so we were REALLY hungry.
Don's cooking came highly recommended and getting to talk to him was an added bonus.
It has been a really pleasing day on the prairie. The people we've met have been so friendly and we are happy that we are able to appreciate their home at a slow pace.
