September 3 - Cafe Baldeau Redux

Thursday - Oberwesel to Andernach
It looks like it is going to be another beautiful day in the Middle Rhine

Looking back at Oberwesel. We are really glad that we decided to do this part of the Rhine again as it gave us the opportunity to stay there. One of the shopkeepers told us that this town was the original site of "Rhine In Flames" and they plan to have fireworks next weekend. Alas....we will be many miles away by then so no fireworks this time.
It looks like a castle but it is really the entrance to the Kammerich train tunnel.

These signs are new since last time. Every city in the World Heritatge Site has one as you enter.

Kamp-Bornhofen
Boppard
We stopped for lunch at the Cafe Baldeau 4 years ago.
This same gentleman waited on us that time too. It is a little early for lunch so we are going to have breakfast #2 instead.
So very yummy!!

In Spay the route took us away from the river for a bit and we missed a turn but came upon this beautiful view in our search for the right road.

Whoops......must have missed another turn! We just backtracked this time and started over. We must be gawking too much.
We are on the south end of Koblenz and now it is time for lunch.

This is the part of Koblenz we couldn't go through last time because of the Rhine in Flames festival. This is tram that takes you to the other side of the river.
Looks like they are getting ready to have a concert again this weekend.
A kind couple from Denmark took this picture for us. Behind us, across the Mosul River, is the campground where we watched the fireworks and listened to the music last time.
We decided to just pull over and let this huge group go by. They were having a grand time and had lots of smiles for us.
Afternoon ice cream break art in Kaltenengers.
Looking across at Neuwied
In Weissenthurm

In Andernach now. This castle gate, called the Koblenz Gate, was built from 1200-1240. Much of it was destroyed in 1689 by the troops of Ludwig XIV but this part has survived several wars since then.
Our hotel on the right, the Rhine Gate tower on the left, once called the Corn Gate.

The Bastion, built 1659-60.

Dinner is somewhere up this street, just another part of the adventure!
