August 29 - We get to be Angels of the Road Again!

Saturday - Retzbach to Bettingen
We had our own personal concert last night. The group highlighted in this montage met for their once-a-month gathering in the conference room just down the hall from our room. They sang traditional German songs from 7 until 10:30. We just left our door open and enjoyed their voices.
An actual bike garage.
Looking back across the river at our motel which is the gold building just behind the bridge.
Doug had Donna ride past this building in Zellingen several times to get the picture he wanted. A woman walking by heard us talking and asked if we were American. Turns out Paula grew up in San Jose but has lived in Germany with her husband for the past 40 years. Unfortunately the picture Doug took of Paula and Donna talking did not turn out well so we have left it out of the blog.
Tiny mama Appaloosa pony
Her even tinier pinto baby. Dad was an Appaloosa too.
Ruin Karlborg in Karlstadt
Crossing the bridge in Karlstadt. The other end of the scale from the cruise boats and barges.
We are seeing more of these "flood" walls in towns now as the river gets bigger and bigger.
Karlstadt market square
But Mom, I'm not ready to get back in there!

These hops were growing wild along the side of the path.
Having lunch in Gemunden. That was one tasty "pretzel". The whole time we were eating we could hear a bass beat in the background and there were a lot of young people walking through the square. When we crossed the bridge after lunch we saw the origin which was a music festival just outside of town. It was our sound of the day but it wasn't our kind of music.

Taking an M&M break near Pflochsbach.

Doug noticed this young woman was walking her bike and asked if she was OK. She was but her bike tire wasn't. She still had 6 miles to go to Lohr
Gokce is from Turkey, doing an internship with a company in Lohr while she finishes her Master's thesis in electrical engineering. They just offered her a full-time job. She did her BS in Turkey and her Master's degree studies at a university in Frankfurt. Bike tire maintenance was not part of those studies as Doug needed to use some of our Gorilla tape to reinforce the tire after he patched her inner tube. We sincerely hope it all held together until she got back to town and wish her all the best as we thoroughly enjoyed our visit with her.

Biggest bike trailer we've seen. We just wonder how he is going to go through some of those narrow spots we've been through.
Our home for the night just outside of Bettingen and it even has chairs...pretty rare in European campgrounds. Plenty of shade on a hot afternoon. Lots of warm water in the showers. A decent restaurant. It is a full moon tonight. It is Saturday.
