August 30 - A day of blessings.... but it didn't start out that way.

Sunday - Bettingen to Obernburg
Saturday and a full moon. What were we thinking! We were way to close to the biergarten which stayed open until 1 am. Our next door neighbors were 2 young men that came "home" at 1;30ish and one of them immediately started throwing up. Needless to say it wasn't our best night for sleep.
It is also foggy so our laundry is now wetter than it was when we went to bed.
Note the flood level markers on the wall. Good thing we didn't come this way in 2011.
Even though it is foggy it is about 70F at 9am.

The sun came out at 9:40 just before we got to the outskirts of Wertheim.
Wertheim Castle
Definitely not Gothic
Following a young family in Dorfprozelten.
Lots of exposed red rock cliffs along this section, noticeable since most of the rock has been pretty gray so far.

Burgstadt - Donna had seen a picture in the guidebook of a church that she wanted to check out. This was not it.
Gutta and Christa came to her rescue. They were looking for Martinskapelle too and suggested Donna come with them. The garden shop next door to the little church would be the place to get the key to the door, except it is Sunday and they are closed. Fortunately Gutta and Christa kept looking at signs and found out that the house across the street also had a key and that guy was home. Donna gave them an Angel card later and found out they had seen us yesterday when we were helping Gokce.
The church was built in 950 and the wall were painted in the 1593.

In Miltenberg, the route is supposed to be along the waterfront somewhere in the middle of all those people and the amusement rides. Needless to say, we took a detour.
In Worth, a place they make/repair those big barges. We started looking for a place to stay as we hadn't made reservations anywhere but the first place didn't have a room, the second place was on the 4th floor on a hot day (90F+) and the 3rd place didn't open until 5pm. We called one of the hotels in the guidebook in Obernburg, had some ice cream, and kept moving.

It was a great decision. Our room was only up one flight of stairs and quiet, our hosts were very gracious, and dinner was excellent. We had space to hang up all our stuff to dry.
And Obernburg was a very interesting place to take an after dinner stroll. It was originally a Roman fort town and much of the wall still exists.

The "newer' buildings were interesting too.
It was a beautiful end to a day that had a dubious beginning. We slept like logs!
