August 31 - Playing tag with the Calcit 12

Monday - Obernburg to Frankfurt
70F and sunny!
We saw this rose garden and tower last night on our walk after dinner but the lighting was poor so Donna went back this morning while Doug was getting loaded up as it was just around the corner from the hotel.
In front of the swimming pool. Those are all bike racks behind the seahorse!
This isn't a beautiful picture as we were just taking it as a reference photo (something to do with barges and it's big). But while Donna was taking it, Doug took off his jacket and discovered that he still had the key to the hotel storage shed. We called the hotel and they had a spare so they asked us to mail it back.
Crossing the Rhine at Aschaffenburg with a view of Johannisburg Castle.
Where we went up the hill to find the post office.
And this really cute traffic circle art.
Don't think we would name our boat Mud
The outer wall at the base of Johannisburg Castle There was another inside. It was such a nice day we didn't feel like investigating any further.
Two way traffic on a blind curve.
Stopped for lunch at a REWE market in Kleinostheim (They had a seating area and really good sandwiches and chocolate covered bananas) These 2 guys were very efficiently putting up new window advertising next door when we got back to our bikes.
Introducing the Calcit 12 river barge. Seemed pretty anonymous until it went under the bridge we are standing on. There is a full blown playground and trampoline on the tail end.
The route will take us all the way around the nuclear power plant in the distance.
Calcit 12 sighting in Seligenstadt as we waited at a viewpoint to see how many barges could fit in the locks. A pleasure boat came in behind the 2 barges. That is one looooong lock.

Looking across the river at the church in Grossauheim. It was a better view of the ornate tower than if we were standing next to it.
There were 2 slalom courses set up in the river. This boater is dropping the ring onto a buoy and he will come back by before he finishes the course and remove it.....all while being timed.

Yes, it's the Calcit 12 again. He would get ahead of us when we stopped to eat or take pictures and we would pass him when he had to stop for the locks. This is the last time we will see it but it has been fun having it as our companion for the day.
Coming into Frankfurt
There is a LOT of apartment construction going on. They did a fine job of keeping the bike route detoured through the area.
This bridge wasn't on our 4 year old guide map.

That is our hotel to left of Doug's head.
Frankfurt is a city on the move.
