Day 8 - A Day For Our Noses

Day 8 - Dorris to Weed
That sign does a great job of describing my sweetie.
It might be sunny but is all of 40F
We stopped to put on our rainjackets for more warmth! The agent didn't even make us stop on the way through.
That really is Mt.Shasta on the horizon. Look closely because this is the clearest it will be.

One of our smells of the day is the sage. All the rain and now sun has enhanced its fragrance.

This was very welcome moisture.

Bike Friendly! In MacDoel of all places.

We are headed uphill so had plenty of time to appreciate the fragrance from these trucks filled with garlic (Smell of the day #2). Ten of them passed us on the way up. Smell of the day #3 was the three hay trucks that also passed us.

Crater Lake is the north end of this American Byway and Lassen is the south end so it looks like we will travel a lot of it.
Smell of the day #4 - Burned forest. We found out later that it happened about 6 weeks earlier.
Not quite like the 5000' level coming up Willamette Pass since we started at 4000' this morning but still satisfying.

Time for lunch!
We picked up some monster sandwiches in Dorris last night.

Yep it is still a bit on the cool side.

Where's the forest?

The shoulder was really wide all the way down the hill so it was a blast.
Just outside of Weed and seeing some of the results of the Boles Fire.

That is pretty darn close!
So of course we had to stop in for a little warmer upper to celebrate the end of an excellent day of riding - 52 miles worth. It sprinkled a little again during the evening but we were warm and dry and thankful, especially after riding through all the miles of forest fires.
