Cottonwood Cows. There is a whole herd running down the middle of the road. |
Doug's mom really liked chickens so this gate made us think of her. |
Look at all these hubcaps. |
A real cattleguard, not just paint on the road. |
And then there was gravel. Good thing we have our wider tires. Fortunately it only lasted a couple of miles. |
Unfortunately it had one steep little hill with squirrelly gravel at the bottom. |
And then we were in town.....Red Bluff and the first ATM we've seen in awhile. |
The Tremont Cafe and Creamery was a great place for lunch. It is Thursday but we aren't going to be here for Date Night so we called it Date Afternoon. |
Back on Historic 99 on the way out of town. |
This is a Walmart distribution center with its very own wind turbine. It is hard to get a good sense of scale from this picture but everything is BIG. |
The first of many new orchards that we will see. |
Looks like they are recycling these olive trees from an old orchard. We saw something similar in Spain. We did wonder how the roots like that metal band in the heat. |
Ramon and his dog, Toughy. Toughy enjoys riding this way but refuses to wear goggles or a helmet. |
What a nice stretch....with very little traffic besides. |
Oh well. This time it was only a short piece that looked like it was in a place that is subject to flash flooding. |
Back on the Sacrament River. |
We pulled into the Woodson Bridge RV Park and this King salmon was one of the first things we saw. |
This guy was an expert at filleting. And the other guy is just really happy that his first salmon fishing trip was so successful. |
This monster oak tree is in the Woodson Bridge State Recreation Area across the road from the RV park. |
This is the view from our camp spot. |
The light this time of year is sooo nice. |
It is 8:30 and it is still 72F.....and no bugs. A peaceful evening after a beautiful day of riding. End of Week 2 - 528 miles, 22,530' of elevation gain and 2 happy people. The route so far |
