Canada 2019 - Day 26 - Owen Sound to Port Elgin

August 11 - Sunday
Owen Sound to Port Elgin
Pretty fancy motel room for us but it was about the only room available here on a summer Saturday night, one of the hazards when you are booking only a day or two in advance.
They had a nice yard too.
Everything continues to be so lush as not much harvesting has happened yet.

Rule of the Road.......never pass up a good bathroom/outhouse. The bleachers were especially handy for taking off the tights. (Allenford Park)
Our route took us through the Saugeen First Nation area. There was a Competition Dance Pow Wow getting underway at noon so there were a lot of people out and about.
We checked out the venue but didn't really have time to stay and do it justice. We did have time to stop and admire this lovely boat in the parking lot. It is a fully restored 1947 Shepherd built at Niagara On The Lake (which we rode through 8 days ago).
We had lunch at Just Like Mom's in Southhampton. This was very appropriate....and accurate!.
Our first really good glimpse of Lake Huron with its beautiful blue water.
Chantry Beach in Southhampton

Checking out the little library but didn't find a keeper.
We had lots of company on this beautiful Sunday afternoon.
That is Chantry Island Lighthouse on the horizon.

This gave us another perspective on how high the water is this year.
We checked into the motel and put the bikes to rest since we were walking distance from the beach.
We found some garbage can container humor along the way.
We think the whole town was here.
Donna's timing was perfect but totally accidental. We emailed a copy to the parents.
Yep....more high water. This is supposed to be a sidewalk along the breakwater.
Our timing was also good because there is music at the beach on Sunday evenings. We really enjoyed Slight Return as they played so many songs that we knew, ones by the Beatles, Neil Young, Jimmy Buffet, and John Prine to name a few.
It was fun watching the crowd as well.

The concert ended as the sun went down. They sang "Here Comes the Sun" by the Beatles. It was the perfect end to a wonderful day.
