August 3 - Saturday Niagara Falls to St. Catherines |
Needed to say goodbye to the dinosaurs on our way out. |
Love these bike racks at the Rosberg Family Park. |
There were bike racks and a repair station in front of the Ten Thousand Buddhas Sarira Stupa too. |
The Niagara River Whirlpools Aero Car. |
And another bike repair station! The Niagara Region is definitely bike friendly. |
This is where all those helicopter rides start....forgot to mention that they go over the falls almost as frequently as the boats go by them. |
Sculpture at the entry to the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens and School of Horticulture. |
The artist used the sheer rock walls of the river gorge as inspiration. |
We are standing on the Sir Adam Beck dam looking across the river at the dam on the US side of the river. How does this work? |
The Floral Clock (adjacent to the dam) was very quiet when we arrived. |
Then three tour buses pulled in. |
Roy Terrace marks where they think Niagara Falls were about 12,000 years ago when the glaciers receded. We are 8 miles from where we started this morning. |
Got photo bombed by another bicyclist. |
This tiny chapel is next to Walkers Country Market where we stopped for lunch. |
Notice the back of his shirt and the boxes of peaches that he worked on almost the whole time we were there. |
The market had everything that we needed - food, restrooms, water for our bottles, tables and chairs in the shade, AND fresh strawberry rhubarb tarts for dessert. |
The path was a busy place for walkers and bikers on this beautiful summer day. |
In Niagara On The Lake checking out the Fort George National Historic Site, another landmark from the War of 1812. |
The Niagara River is history for us now too. |
A Boy Scout gathering at Butler's Barracks National Historic Site, a half mile down the trail. |
Another way to pedal. |
This vineyard gate made a good resting spot for Doug to check out his bike which is making a funny noise. |
Donna checked out the grapes. And the Law of Driveways was at work as the owner drove in while we were there. (It happens to us a LOT.) |
A different vineyard provides us with our first view of Lake Ontario. |
Crossing the Welland Canal at Lock #1. |
We rode our bikes to St. Denis for the evening mass. It is a big church but very simple inside. |
Seemed quite appropriate that we would be going to church in a town names St. Catherines |
