Visual Overload at the Louvre

Day 43 - Monday - July 25
Here are the stairs (6 floors worth) that we had to carry the bikes up and down. Trifocals just add to the task.
We got to the Louvre by 9:30 and there was already a long line but it went quickly.

We made a beeline to the Mona Lisa just like 90% of the crowd. It said "No pictures" but everyone was taking them anyway, even Donna.
This is what you see when you turn around from the Mona Lisa.
Much less famous but still a Leonardo da Vinci....and not so crowded.

The building itself is a work of art.

The Venus de Milo was a star attraction as well.

A very different take on Mary Magdalene

We toured Napoleon's Apartments. Opulent isn't even an adequate word .

One of the few pieces of art made from wood that we saw all day.

We spent 5 hours inside and saw more art than we've seen in the last 5 years. It spanned 3000 BC to the 1800's. More than once we wondered if the home country might be just a little jealous that France has such priceless treasures.
On the way back to "our" neighborhood we got a little turned around and found this tiny church (tiny by Paris standards). It's simplicity was quite the contrast to the Louvre.
