Flowers and Bridges

Narbonne to Pont du Gard
Day 27 - Saturday - July 9
Narbonne to Sete

We saw these large pots in many places......maybe olive oil storage in times past??
Even in France!

Following the Law of Castles in France too. (Beziers)

We happened on to this path along a canal that went on for many miles, with shade no less.
Donna to the rescue....the little girl had tipped her bike over.

Guy and Lieve are from Belgium. They are on their way to Barcelona so we were able to exchange route info since we are on similar journeys, just in opposite directions.

Yes, those are big grins!

The plaza in Agde just in time for peach (peche) ice tea, our new drink of choice.
On the long spit to Sete, we ran into these 3 guys that we had talked to briefly yesterday. One was having some mechanical trouble so we talked awhile about Spain, Catalan, their journey, our journey.
It was festival time in Sete so finding a place to stay was a challenge. This was the view we ended up with and were quite happy to have it.
Day 28 - Sunday - July 10
Sete to Lunel

Larry and Linda Robin, this picture is for you. For the rest of you, they are sailing their Beneteau around the Great Lakes during this same time.

Oh la la, France............bicycling in a short dress and high heels.

We are not sure how happy these London Plane trees are to be paved around but they sure are tough.....and they provide great shade along many of the streets and roads we've been following.
You are here........at the outer edge of Montpellier's city bike system. Enlarge the picture if you want to see more detail.
Farmer's market and craft day in Lattes. This old Citroen was sitting still so Donna could finally get a picture. They make VW bugs look huge.
Our farmer's market lunch; peach tea, bananas, cheese, and Chinese stir fry.
Gear drive on the city bike.
This fellow was playing American folk songs and the little kids found him fascinating.
The mystery tower.....maybe water??
Typical cemetery in this area. (Mudaison)
"Just a Saint?" Many of the traffic circles are nicely landscaped like this.

Laundry time in Lunel.
Day 29 - Monday - July 11
Lunel to Pont du Gard
The origin of all those bottles of Perrier water.
A hotel that isn't a hotel. This is really City Hall and we won't make that mistake again.
Tea time......everything but bars are closed from about 1pm to 4pm.

Produce crates come in one of Donna's favorite colors.......who knew?

Acres of asparagus
Now we are really in Tour de France mode...........we've got the book. It just happens to be in French but profiles look the same no matter the language.

Remoulins, typical of the smaller towns.

Those Romans are at it again. This is Pont du Gard, the highest ancient Roman bridge in Europe (48.7 meters), built in 50 AD.  It was an amazing feat of engineering besides being a beautiful and popular spot on the Gard River.

This rural hotel, Columbier du Pont du Gard, was an oasis on a very warm day.
Nils and Kristin arrived by bike also. They had started in Copenhagen and are headed to Nice.  They joined us after dinner to share experiences.
