Sept. 7 - We found it.......Eureka!

Eureka KOA to Eureka (Sort of a rest day)
Tuesday - September 7
Not napping, just using the full body technique for getting the air out of the Thermarest.

Our very classy and very cheap shower cap seat covers. They do keep the seats dry in this moist coastal air.

Bob and Artie left the KOA at the same time so we all formed a paceline and fairly zipped along (17 mph) until we stopped on a bridge just before town to get some pictures and they kept going.

Alas it turned out to be the last time we saw them except from afar. We really enjoyed their company!

Our first real stop in town was Los Bagels for breakfast #2. We ran into Dick there and shared a table. We had a Scrambagel..........very fresh and delicious. Steve showed up just as Dick was leaving so we got to chat with him as well. We won't see them again this trip as they have to be in SFO a day earlier than we need to be there but it was fun getting to know these 4 guys.

After breakfast, we secured a room at the Travelodge, changed into street clothes and then played tourist the rest of the day.

The other side of the building with the mural.

The boardwalk.

He just looked so scholarly!
Hello really cute little Octopus. You are much too fragile for panniers so a picture will have to do.

It was farmer's market day. This little guy was totally absorbed by the music.

Donna picked up a couple lemon cucumbers to munch on.

The famous Carson Mansion. It is a private club so this is as close as we could get.

This is the Pink Lady, which is across the street from the mansion and much more accessible. Eureka has a fine collection of Victorians. It also has a number of used bookstores, one our favorite places to spend time. We ended up buying 2 books.

About 2:00 it started misting so we headed back to the motel to get our rain gear. We had only been there a couple of minutes when the Park called to tell us that they had found Donna's bag. Hurray!! All they needed was a self-addressed flat rate box and they would mail back to Sweet Home so the Post Office was our next stop. This called for a celebration so we returned to our lunch spot, Bon Boniere for some Chocolate Coma ice cream - dark chocolate chips and a fudge ribbon in a chocolate base....Donna was in heaven. From there we browsed the 1940's tattoo display at the Sailors Grave Tattoo Parlor and picked up  a harmonica at the music store, getting back to the motel just as it really started raining.
This is the North Coast Coop grocery store, our source for tomorrow's food, conveniently located right across the street from the motel. It rained for about an hour then we walked over to Gallagher's Pub for some fine fish and chips.

The restaurant was in the same building as the Eagle House Victorian Inn so after dinner we checked out the very ornate lobby and commented on the Harley's in the ballroom staying dry. Betty, the manager, told us this happens fairly regularly!
Sound of the day was the music at the farmer's market.
Today's bike miles = 5.8
Walking = lots
Total miles = 96.9
