Europe 2018 - August 4 - Leiden to Hoofddorp

Saturday - August 4
We have really enjoyed our stay here but it is time to move on.

Our bikes were pretty happy hanging out in this classy storage space too.

Another outside exhibit at the Museum of Ethnography.

We also visited Rembrandt one more time at Rembrandt Plaza.

Molen de Put from a different angle.

We wanted to take one more ferry ride so our route out of Leiden brought us here.

Now we just hope that a ferry actually shows up!

It is pretty tiny.

In fact, it can only hold 12 people and our loaded bikes took up a lot of that space.

A bunch of sailboats hitching a ride.

We got dropped off on Kaag Island. The captain of our ship told us how to get to the ferry that would get us off the north end of the island, an unexpected bonus ferry.

Of course, we had to get some pictures (and cold drinks) along the way....Donna and Doug.

Lori and Doug

This ferry ride was a lot shorter and it was free.

On the outskirts of Nieuw-Vennep, we stopped at a Garden Center store to use the restroom....

....but it turned out that they had a nice little cafe inside so we stayed for lunch.

It also had birds, fish, rabbits, plants, pots and all sorts of garden stuff. Donna felt right at home.

We checked into our hotel in Hoofddorp and dropped our gear off in our room. It was only 2:30 so we biked to the airport. We wanted to check out the route, the check-in area, and make sure they had bike boxes. They had 300 in stock so no worries. Then it was back to Hoofddorp for pizza dinner.

We still had plenty of time to make it to the 7 pm mass...

.....and stop for ice cream on the way back to the hotel.

It was a good but also bittersweet day since our trip is almost over.
