Europe 2018 - August 1 - Hoorn to Haarlem

Wednesday - August 1
It is only 53F this morning!

And there is almost no wind at least for the first part of the day.

We were distracted by these leaning buildings and missed one of our turns.

That was OK though as we were in no hurry and there was much to see no matter what route we took through town.

There were canals everywhere.

We have not seen this combination of thatch and tile on a roof before.

Even the boat matches!
We didn't have to guess who had the right-of way.

In Spijkerboor at KP 59.

We love these little people/bike ferries.

This is the fire department building next to the ferry.

Can't pass up a Toad.

Ferry ride #2 after lunch, just northwest of Amsterdam.

This one takes cars but bikes ride free.
We got to our hotel at 2 pm so had lots of time to wander around Haarlem.

Granddaughter Abby visited here during her trip to Europe and highly recommended it as a stop on our journey.

St. Bavo's Church on the horizon.

Wow!! Surprised it doesn't blast out the windows.

Had dinner and did a lot of people-watching on our way back to the hotel.

We would want a key fob that made our bike horn honk if we parked here.

The sign says "Art and Counterculture:1967-70". And a Volkswagen Beetle besides.....so weird to have our youth feel so historical.
